A gallery commission is part of a private business relationship, not a coupon automatically owed to a direct buyer.
1. Look at the premise
Artist and gallery agreements vary, as do services, territories, inventory, exclusivity, taxes, production costs, and pricing policies.
2. Keep the distinction visible
Large direct discounts can create conflicts across channels and undermine the coherence collectors should want to see.
3. Apply it to the purchase
The collector can ask about price and terms without reverse-engineering an imagined commission.
