How to Ask a Gallery for the Price
Ask directly and identify the exact work: “Could you please share the price and purchasing details for [artist, title, date]?” You do not need to perform insider knowledge to request basic transaction information.
Why this question is harder than it looks
Price inquiries are ordinary sales communication. A useful reply should identify the currency, tax treatment, availability, and major included or excluded costs.
A practical way to decide
- Use the artist, title, date, and inventory number if available.
- Ask whether the work is currently available.
- Confirm currency and whether tax is included.
- Ask about the frame, packing, shipping, and payment schedule.
- Request a written offer or invoice before sending payment.
What this does not establish
A delayed reply or request for context is not automatically a warning sign. Pressure, inconsistent figures, or refusal to provide written terms are different.
Next step
Check an artwork to organize public evidence about a specific listing. The tool provides research context, not authentication or appraisal.
