Collector glossary

Sight size

The dimensions of the artwork visible through a frame or mat opening, which may be smaller than the full object.

GlossaryReviewed August 20262 minute read

Why it matters

Catalogues, condition reports, and framing quotes may list image, sheet, sight, and framed dimensions separately.

Common misunderstanding

Sight size is not the artwork's full size; edges, inscriptions, or signatures may be hidden beneath the mat or frame.
