Spacer

A narrow strip or structural element used to maintain separation between an artwork and glazing, commonly around the inside perimeter of a frame.

Why it matters

It is often used when a work is framed without a window mat or when surface texture needs clearance.

Common misunderstanding

A visible gap does not substitute for correct fitting, stable materials, or an appropriate mount.
