Glazing

The transparent protective layer placed in front of an artwork in a frame, usually glass or acrylic.

Why it matters

A framing quote may distinguish product type, reflection control, ultraviolet filtering, static behavior, weight, and break resistance.

Common misunderstanding

Glazing is not automatically conservation-grade, should not rest directly against the artwork, and cannot eliminate all light-related damage.
