Collector glossary
Frame liner
A fabric-covered or finished inner border fitted between an artwork and the outer frame moulding, often around paintings displayed without glazing.
Why it matters
It may appear in a framing quote or be part of an older frame that has historical or visual significance.
Common misunderstanding
A liner is not the same as a paper mat or a glazing spacer.
